Police report that an unruly passenger on a JetBlue flight bound from New York to Los Angeles created a disturbance on the flight on Sunday. The disturbance caused pilots to divert the flight to Denver, where the man, 32-year-old Marcus Covington, was taken into custody, at which time he spit on and threatened the officers. Covington, who is from Chicago, was arraigned in Denver yesterday and the details of the disturbance were released.
Covington was acting inappropriately while waiting to use the washroom, making nonsensical comments to other passengers and allegedly groping a pregnant passenger. He then refused when a flight attendant requested he remain seated. There was an FBI agent on board the flight and flight attendants asked him to intervene. For the remainder of the flight Covington was seated between the FBI officer and another passenger. If convicted, Covington faces up to 20 years in prison.
