Tom Tate, Mayor of the Gold Coast, and Deputy Mayor Donna Gates have been talking with officials in Las Vegas about launching direct flights between the two destinations. While those in the tourism industry are keen to link Sin City with the Glitter Strip, airport officials in Las Vegas warn that the deal will only be possible if the route is financially feasible. As of yet there have been no airlines named in the deal.
So far there are no direct flights from Australia to Las Vegas because all flights stopover in Los Angeles or San Francisco or make connections with other flights that are going to Las Vegas. Tate and Gates met with Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman on Thursday to start some informal discussions regarding the proposed new route. They had a good response from the Las Vegas mayor, who said direct flights would be a boon.
