Two Separate Flights Had People Hospitalized: One Due to Turbulence and One Due to Strange Fumes

Over Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning two US flights had to make emergency landings and people from each flight were hospitalized.  The first flight was American Airlines flight on which three passengers and two flight attendants were injured during 15 seconds of turbulence that occurred during their descent at Miami International Airport just after 6:00 pm.  Those who were injured were transported to hospital upon arrival.  A spokesperson for the airline, Matt Miller, said that a number of other passengers were treated for minor injuries on the scene.

The second flight to have trouble was a US Airways flight that was on its way to Rome, but that had to make an emergency landing in Philadelphia on Wednesday morning as a strange odor was detected.  Crew members aboard the flight felt light-headed and 12 people felt sick due to the fumes.  The plane landed safely, the crew was replaced, and the flight departed again in the early morning hours.
