📰 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible for sale on BaT Auctions - ending June 8 (Lot #32,439) | Bring a Trailer

This Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is one of 4,183 convertibles built for the 1967 model year and was first sold by Foreign Cars of Belmont, Inc. in Massachusetts to an engineer in New Mexico, with whom it is said to have remained until 2000. The car was purchased by its third owner in 2001 and underwent a three-year refurbishment that was completed in 2019 before being acquired by the selling dealer. The work included body repairs and a repaint in blue as well as replacement of the soft top, carpets, vinyl upholstery, suspension components, and tires. The air-cooled 1,500cc flat-four was tuned for altitude, a carburetor rebuild carried out, and the rear suspension raised to accommodate larger-than-stock radial tires. This Karmann Ghia is offered in Colorado with an owner's manual, a tool kit and jack, service and refurbishment records, and an Arizona title.

The Karmann Ghia featured revised trim, badging, and door locks as well as rear bumper-mounted reverse lights for 1967. This example reportedly underwent bodywork and a repaint in its factory Neptune Blue at Lucky Luciano Custom and Collision of Phoenix, Arizona. Chrome trim and emblems are also said to have been replated. The front trunk lid is raised due to a new rubber seal according to the selling dealer.

Refinished four-lug steel wheels feature chrome hubcaps and 165R-15 Arizonian radial tires. A refurbished spare is fitted in the trunk. New features for 1967 included a dual-circuit braking system, front disc brakes, and a revised top secured by cable. A replacement black Stayfast canvas top was installed during the refurbishment, and the rear suspension was raised 1″ to accommodate the larger-than-stock tires. New ball joints and shocks were installed in November 2019.

The interior was reupholstered by Auto Weave Inc. of Denver, Colorado with new black seat covers, door panels, and carpets. Additional work included installation of a new headliner, dash pad, rearview mirror, and rubber floor mats as well as a rebuild of the dome light. The steel dashboard was redesigned with a woodgrain finish for 1967 and holds an AM/FM/cassette radio as well as a 90-mph VDO speedometer flanked by a fuel gauge and an inoperable clock. Just over 2,400 miles are said to show on the replacement five-digit odometer, with total mileage unknown.

The air-cooled flat-four was increased in displacement to 1,500cc for 1967 and was factory-rated at 53 horsepower. New spark plugs were installed during the refurbishment, and the Solex carburetor was rebuilt by H&M Motorworks of Phoenix, Arizona.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. Additional underside photos are viewable below.
