KLM is increasing the number of flights between Calgary and Amsterdam by adding two flights per week, bringing its weekly total from five to seven. The new flights will begin on June 6th and have been announced only a month after Lufthansa pulled its flights between Calgary and Frankfurt. Airline analyst Rick Erickson said that the additional KLM flights will allow Calgarians greater access to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Erickson also states that the new flights emphasize how important and attractive Calgary is as an international destination for those flying in from overseas. Bruce Okabe, CEO of Travel Alberta, agrees that the added flights will increase the number of tourists coming from Europe into Calgary. He says it is very good for Alberta. KLM currently flies the route every day but Monday and Wednesday, but a sixth flight will be added on April 30th and daily flights will begin June 6th.
