This morning saw high winds wreaking havoc on the mountains and foothills surrounding Denver. These winds in the area surrounding the Continental Divide are expected to reach speeds of 80 to 100 miles per hour, but the eastern slope of the Front Range Mountains and foothills could reach 120 mph later today. The area is under a wind warning until 5:00 am Thursday morning.
At the Denver International Airport the winds have been gusting to 20 mph and the high winds have caused numerous flight delays. In addition, National Weather Service Forecasters are expecting a high of 62 degrees today, balmy weather for late February. In the meantime, heavy snow will hit northwest Colorado. Passengers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
