Facts about Florida

The Sunshine State was admitted to the union in 1845 as the 27th state and is now home to 20.98 million people. The state capital is Tallahassee, which is located on the eastern edge of the panhandle. It is home to the Museum of Florida History, which covers what it was like to live there during key points in history such as the Civil War and WWII. Nearby antebellum plantations such as the 1843 Knott House Museum also offer a portal into the past. However, with a population of 190,894 Tallahassee is not the largest city. The following three cities are the most populated areas in the state.

- Jacksonville has a population of 907,529. While Jacksonville is a hub for business it is also home to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens and the PGA tour headquarters. Also in the area are several museums including the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Jacksonville Fire Museum, The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, Cummer Museum of Arts and Gardens, and more.
- Miami is the second largest city with a population of 453,579. Because of its beautiful white sand beaches and bouncing nightlife, Miami is a city that songs are written about and vacations are planned around. It also has a fair share of nature nearby with the Everglades National Park on one edge and Biscayne National Park on the other.
- Tampa is the third largest city with a population of 377,165. While Tampa is also a business center like Jacksonville it has cuban influences in the restaurants and nightlife similar to Miami. For those vacationing who want a daytime activity there is Busch Gardens, a combination of thrill rides and animals watching.
