The deepening economic crisis in Nigeria has led to two international airlines halting flights to the country. United Airlines will suspend daily flights between Houston and Lagos, the commercial capital at the end of June. The Spanish airliner Iberia canceled all of its weekly flights to Nigeria in May. The decision to suspend flights comes from falling trade in addition to foreign currency restrictions that traps earnings in the west African country. Other carriers like British Airways, Air France, Emirates, and Virgin are also being affected. The country is second only to Venezuela as a top blocker of the repatriation of airline funds.
