Delta Airlines is planning of expanding its service to Asia, thanks to its partnership with Alaska Airlines. Starting on June 17, 2013, Delta will be operating flights from Seattle to Shanghai. The airline is also proposing flights from Seattle to Tokyo-Haneda in Japan. Seattle is the base for Alaska Airlines and thanks to that, Delta is planning on operating more than 40 flights per day from Seattle to 15 destinations.
The partnership between Delta and Alaska Airlines allows Delta to operate flights out of Seattle across the networks of both airlines. This means that customers of Delta can access an additional 50 markets via connections in Seattle and Alaska customers will have access to an additional 60 U.S. cities through the Delta network. This partnership will also allow Delta to add a fifth weekly flight from Seattle to New York, which will include BusinessElite service.
