The FBI arrested a woman accused of setting fires on a JetBlue flight from New York to Puerto Rico. Idealiz Gomez used a lighter to set fire to two blankets and a control panel during the flight and was arrested by police and placed in FBI custody after landing in Ponce. According to the FBI, she had a lighter in her carry-on, which is permitted under U.S. regulations, and used it to “ignite and successfully damage two blankets and a portion of the in-flight control panel of the seat next to hers.” She was charged with destruction of aircraft or aircraft facilities. If convicted she could get up to 25 years in prison.
