How to handle long flights

Long trips can be close to intolerable. With the crammed-in seating arrangements, tinned air, insufferable cabin mates, and never-ending boredom, long-haul flights can be the stuff made of nightmares. If you have a long flight planned there are some things you can do to make the trip a little more bearable.

  1. Hydrate. Drink as much water as possible. Drink more than you think you need. The more you have to get up to go to the lavatory, the better, because that means you're stretching your legs, too.
  2. Avoid alcohol. It may seem fun to get tipsy at 30,000 feet, but it contributes to dehydration and will make your jet lag worse.
  3. Pack your carry-on intelligently. Make sure you have everything in there you might need: moisturizer, Advil, eye drops, ear plugs, and a sleep mask.
