On Monday, the top executive of the Winnipeg Airports Authority, Barry Rempel, said that they are sure they will see benefits from the launch of WestJet's new regional air service, which might include service between Winnipeg and Regina and Saskatoon. WAA would very much like it if there was regular service between Winnipeg and the two Saskatchewan cities. Brandon is also on the list of possible cities to get the regional service.
However, at this point those in Manitoba will have to wait and see if and when the service will come to them. WestJet announced their plans of expansion earlier this year, but have not yet announced whether they will start in the east or in the west. If they start in the east, then Rempel said they won't see anything until at least 2014. A spokesperson for WestJet would not commit to an answer when asked about whether Winnipeg and Brandon were being considered.
