Several airlines are offering more premium economy seats on long-term flights: so far Singapore Air, Lufthansa, and Hawaiian all considering expanded options. This will translate into more comfortable long-haul flights even for those on a budget.
Lufthansa plans to turn 10 percent of its capacity into premium economy seats, with the more comfortable seats going on sale in May for flights starting in December.
Premium economy will be an in-between class that will have passengers paying a little bit more for some extra perks and more legroom. For example, Lufthansa’s seats will be three inches wider than basic economy class seats, the seat back entertainment screens are larger at 12 inches wide, and there’s a bigger armrest between seats. Second checked bags will be included and you’ll receive your wine in real glasses and your meals on china plates.
