After the cancellation of thousands of flights by airlines in the U.S., airlines in Asia are following suit and cancelling all flights into New York. These cancellations are the result of Hurricane Sandy, which is bearing down on the northeast coast of the U.S., heading right for New York. Cathay Pacific Airways has cancelled eight flights between Hong Kong and New York over Monday and Tuesday. They also have four flights that fly to New York via Vancouver that will only fly to Vancouver on Monday and Tuesday.
Many other Asian airlines have cancelled or delayed flights to New York and northeast U.S., including Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air Lines, and Asiana Airlines. Qantas Airlways, whcih flies out of Australia, will not operate their flights to New York on Monday, but will still poerate their flights to Los Angeles. In New York all subways, tunnels, and public transportation have been shut down and hundreds of thousands of residents have been evacuated.
