Three airports in Queensland were affected by a Telstra blackout that caused disruptions with both domestic and international flights. The IT system that crashed left voice and data communications down and lasted about an hour and a half, during which time passengers had to check in manually at the Brisbane,Bundaberg, and Cairns airports. Telstra services were back up and running by 9:30 am and Telstra is investigating the cause of the blackout.
A spokesperson for Qantas said the longest delay they experienced was a flight from Brisbane to Perth, which was an hour and a half late. She explained that there were technical issues out of their control, which their check-in systems and some flight systems were delayed. This caused them to require manual check ins of all passengers on Saturday morning. The spokesperson said that only one international flight, from Dallas to Brisbane, was affected and nine domestic flights were affected, mostly flights in Brisbane.
