German airline Lufthansa has started listing its airplane seats on Airbnb, which is an unusual platform. The ad says, “Our cabin isn’t in the woods, but in the sky!” and offers a round-trip light between New York and Frankfurt for around $860. This is the first time an airline has actually listed flights on the home-sharing website, but KLM has offered a night on a grounded jet at the Schiphol airport in Amsterdam.
In March, Lufthansa’s stocks tanked due to strikes and low-cost competition. Despite lower fuel costs, analysts for the company said profits will only increase a small amount this year. With decline bookings on long-haul flights to Europe, a novel way to advertise may see an increase for the airline.
