In their latest survey, Skyscanner has found that single, well-dressed men in their 30s are more likely to get a free upgrade in their ticket than are women in their late teens. The survey asked questions of 700 cabin crew members from 83 countries and 61% of them said they had given a free upgrade and it was generally the single men who benefitted the most and got the best seats. On the flip side, those least likely to get a free upgrade are women in their late teens traveling as a group.
Anyone who is in between these two extremes might still score a free upgrade to first class, particularly if you are injured or traveling alone. In fact, 72% of cabin crew said they are more likely to offer a free upgrade to someone who is traveling alone. In a separate poll conducted by Skyscanner last year they found that three quarters of travelers were willing to lie to get a free upgrade.
