Allegiant Airlines had continuous flight delays on Sunday, which resulted in the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport being packed full of waiting passengers. A spokesperson with the airline, Jessica Wheeler, said that some of the airlines jets that serviced Las Vegas and Mesa had mechanical issues that had to be taken care of, affecting flights and many passengers. The airline bought pizza and drinks for their delayed passengers.
Passenger Kelli Mayes-Denker, from Iowa, said that there were so many delayed passengers that they were spilling out of the terminal onto the lawns outside. Mayes-Denker was supposed to depart on a 2:45 pm flight to Cedar Rapids, but the flight was rescheduled for 9:20 pm. She said there was no word on how many aircraft were down with mechanical issues and the restaurant in the terminal ran out of buns for their hamburgers. They were given one slice of pizza by the airline.
