Delta Airlines has a very secure hub in Atlanta. The airlines operates 1000 departures daily from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and next door is their headquarters, with 25,000 employees, a Starbucks, a medical clinic, and even a Walmart. However, Delta also has hubs in Memphis, Cincinnati, and Minneapolis and these do not fare as well. In these locations, Delta has had to cut employees and/or flights.
This summer has been no exception. The airline announced that they would be cutting its regional flight subsidiary Comair, which is based near Cincinnati. In Minneapolis, the airline has shut down Regional Elite Airline Services, its ground-handling subsidiary. Memphis has fared no better, with Delta cutting its flight schedule nearly in half, from 240 daily flights to 125 daily flights by fall. In addition Memphis-based Pinnacle Airlines is under bankruptcy protection.
