Allegiant Airlines is considering the idea of introducing direct flights from Alberta to Arizona, in order to allow travellers from Alberta to easily access warm and sunny vacation spots in Arizona. The airline now has four large aircraft that they use for trips to Hawaii and Jessica Wheeler, a spokesperson for the airline, said that they had to get special certifications from the FAA to fly to Honolulu. Now that they have those, it would be easy to get clearance for Arizona flights.
The CEO of Allegiant has already talked about international flights to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean, and since their purpose is to help people access vacation destinations, international destinations make sense. Edmonton International Airport management is keeping an eye on the situation and continually engages in discussions with airlines regarding growth and passenger service. Wheeler says that Calgary is an uncertainty at this point.
