The government of Northern Territory says it has sent a delegation to Sydney and Canberra is an effort to lobby against planned cuts to domestic service that would significantly affect tourism in Northern Territory. Qantas Airlines plans to stop its service from Perth to Uluru in October and starting in September they will cut in half the number of flights operated from Cairns to Uluru. In addition, Jetstar is planning to cut services between Darwin and Sydney and Darwin and Denpasar, Bali.
Treasurer Delia Lawrie said that this is simply bad timing because these cuts come at a time when Northern Territory is trying to increase the number of tourists they attract. She adds that they are very disappointed by the decisions of the two airlines. The delegation sent to lobby the government will push for the government to create a fresh new tourism strategy that will increase the number of visitors coming into Australia and Northern Territory.
