Saturday saw a thick blanket of fog cause poor visibility and affect flights going in and out of Chandigarh Airport. In total, 18 flights were cancelled as the tri-city area was covered in a dense fog for the first time this season. In some areas visibility was reduced to 50 m in the morning and by afternoon it was still only 150 m. The fog not only affected air travel, but also train and road travel throughout the region.
The meteorological center of Chandigarh said the fog was caused by a clear night overnight as well as plenty of moisture in the air and calm winds. Both daytime and night time temperatures in the region had come down from Friday. The high on Friday was 20.7 degrees Celcius and on Saturday it was 13.8 degrees. The low over night went down from 6.9 degrees to 5.4 degrees.
