Pope Francis will take AA flights
Later this week Pope Francis will be cruising around North America on an American Airlines jet. The plane has been temporarily christened "Shepherd One" and it will carry the Pope from just outside Washington, D.C. to JFK airport in New York. The Pope is supposed to speak to the UN on Friday. The next day, he will fly to Philly from New York and then on to Rome.
According to a spokesperson for American Airlines, the plane was chartered by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Pilots and crew members are from all over the country; all are AA employees. The plane will be put into regular use after the Pope is done with it.
