Four months ago, AirTran launched their first daily flights from John Wayne Airport to Cabo San Lucas and now they are getting set to add a second daily flight on the route. AirTran is a subsidiary of Southwest Airlines and Brad Hawkins, a spokesperson with Southwest, said it has been a very strong market. Hawkins added that the additional daily flight is in anticipation of Southwest and AirTran offering connecting service between the two airlines starting next year.
The daily flight to Cabo currently departs John Wayne shortly after noon and arrives in Cabo at 3:30 pm. The second flight will depart John Wayne at 9:00 a., arriving in Cabo at noon. A spokesperson with the John Wayne Airport, Jenny Wedge, said the flights to Cabo have been particularly popular and that the additional flights will make it easier and more convenient for travellers who want to fly to Cabo next summer.
