Air France has announced that 40% of their short- and medium-haul flights have been cancelled as severe winter weather and heavy snow hit Paris and the surrounding region. For the time being, all long-haul flights are still scheduled to operate at both Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports, but officials at the airports warn that this could change and further flight disruptions are possible as the snow continues to fall.
From Friday to Sunday, heavy snow has fallen in northern and southwestern France, with some areas receiving as much as 15-20 cm of the white stuff. The snow has also caused delays with France’s TGV high-speed rail system and bus service has been cancelled throughout Paris. The snow and ice have caused poor road conditions that have been the cause of a number of fatal car crashes.
