A United Airlines flight en route from Honolulu to Los Angeles, had to return to Honolulu twice due to electrical odors that were noticed by the passengers and crew. Flight 1196 departed Honolulu at 7:00 am on Wednesday morning, but turned around when passengers and crew smelled what they said was an electrical odor not long after takeoff. Rahsaan Johnson, a spokesperson for the airline, said the pilot decided to turn around and return to Honolulu.
After the Boeing 757-300 was checked over by mechanics, and with the smell no longer in the air, the flight took off once again at a little after 12:00 pm. However, once again passengers and crew smelled the electrical odor and the pilot chose to return to Honolulu a second time. Johnson said the airline apologizes for the inconvenience to their passengers, who ended up travelling to Los Angeles on other flights.
