On Sunday, Allegiant Airlines operated its very first flight from Stockton to Hawaii. The flight carried 223 excited passengers, with every seat full on the Boeing 757 aircraft, and it departed Stockton at 5:30 pm, bound for Honolulu International Airport. While the weather was decidedly wet in Stockton, passengers knew they were headed for sunny 80 degrees and sandy beaches. One passenger, Kassey Dolan, said she had packed all her bathing suits and sarongs.
One of the most appealing aspects of the flight was the price, which went for as low as $99 one-way. Another passenger, Justine Alcocer, said that for her it was an impulsive getaway for the family and their daughter's friend. Stockton Metropolitan Airport held a reception to honor the new flight and there were dignitaries such as San Joaquin Supervisor Steve Bestolarides, all of whom were wearing leis. Upon arrival in Hawaii at 3:30 pm the flight was given a water cannon salute.
