With the abrupt halt is Direct Air flights, Vision Airlines is moving in to pick up the slack. They will be offering flights two times a week from Springfield to Florida. Flights will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays and the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport has guaranteed Vision Airlines $55,000 in revenue per round-trip flight from now until the end of April, for a total of $715,000. The announcement for the deal was made at a press conference held on Thursday.
Mark Hanna, Capital Airport executive director, said that they are confident that Vision Airlines can sell the minimum 5000 tickets required to avoid needing subsidies. This is a promising goal considering Direct Air had sold 7700 tickets to passengers for spring and summer travel. Vision airline will operate the flights with 200-seat jets and one-way ticket prices will start at $139. More flight and schedule details are expected to be released by Friday.
