Hawaiian Airlines is set to launch new direct flights from Aukland, New Zealand to Honolulu, starting in March 2013. They will become the first and only US airline to operate flights to New Zealand. Air New Zealand has been doing well with the route, reporting a 50% increase in capacity and increasing flights from two to three times per week. Hawaiian Airlines' market research has shown that the Hawaii market has been under-served for New Zealand.
The new flights offered by Hawaiian will also make it possible for New Zealanders to connect to the many other destinations in Hawaii, as well as 11 destinations on the mainland, including New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. Mark Dunkerley, president and CEO of Hawaiian, says that New Zealanders are avid travellers and the new nonstop flights will meet the travel demand that is there and waiting. Of course, the new service will also allow travellers from Hawaii easy access to New Zealand's many wonders.
