It seems as though a solar plane, called the Solar Impulse 2, which is attempting to journey around the world, has been forced to ground in Hawaii. The team didn't have a choice in the matter as the battery on the aircraft was damaged as it fly into the islands. The overheating batteries cause the irreversible damage but there are plans to keep the around the world flight going. Unfortunately the damage occurred on the very first day of the flight as it departed from Japan and headed to Hawaii.
"Solar Impulse is attempting a historic first of flying around the world only on solar energy," said the pilots of the plane. "And while Solar Impulse has complete eight legs, covering nearly half of the journey, setbacks are part of the challenges of a project which is pushing technological boundaries to the limits."
