Turkey has banned all Syrian flights into the country, according to Turkey's foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu. Tensions between the two countries continues to escalate and the decision to ban the flights were made because the Syrian regime was using civilian flights to transport military equipment into Turkey. They notified the Syrian government of their decision on Saturday and last week Turkey forced a Syrian plane coming from Russia to land. They reportedly confiscated military equipment from the flight.
There has also been a week of exchanged fire across the border between the two countries an Turkey has reinforced four naval bases along the Mediterranean. There has been an unattributed report that Turkey has also sent to those naval bases frigates with cannons and anti-ship, anti-aircraft missiles. Syrian opposition leaders say that foreign investors are not doing enough to help stop the conflict and the stalemate that has formed.
