Kelowna International Airport manager Sam Samaddar has announced that travellers will be able to take advantage of direct flights to Varadero Cuba. The flights will be operated by Sunwing from the middle of December to the middle of April. Samaddar said Cuba is a destination that many passengers have said they want to go to and they have spent the last six years negotiating the addition of the service.
The flights will be on a Boeing 737-800, which seats 160 passengers and they allow the airport to offer a new destination to passengers. They are also working on adding additional destinations and they are working on having an alternate carrier take over the route to Los Angeles and a number of other destinations in the U.S. There is a hope that they will be add another destination in the Midwest, such as Minneapolis or Chicago.
