Nav Canada wants to implement new procedures for flights landing at the Calgary airport. These procedures could save fuel and shorten flights, but could also end up adding more air traffic over some areas of the city. Called the Required Navigation Performance Procedure (RNP), it is satellite-based and will allow pilots to fly more direct flight paths, which will save three or four minutes per flight, which will in turn lead to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. Volume could go up in some areas, but would go down in others. There will be a public information session about the RNP on Wednesday, December 2 at Ambrose University College.
