During the festival season this year, IndiGo is planning to launch 42 flights that will depart late at night or in the wee hours of the morning. These will be weekly flights and will start on October 15. The IndiGo flights will be between Delhi and Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru, and Delhi and Chennai. SpiceJet is also planning to launch similar flights and Jet Aiways already operates late night flights.
Popularly termed red-eye flights in the U.S., tickets for these flights are usually cheaper than their daytime counterparts. Despite this, travel portal ixigo indicates not all of the late night flights operated by IndiGo are cheaper, although the Jet Airways flights tend to be about 20% cheaper than daytime flights. However, Aloke Bajpai, CEO of ixigo, says the move is a good one for IndiGo so they can increase capacity during peak travel season.
