Air Malta has announced the launch of new daily flights to the Libyan capital of Tripoli that are scheduled to begin next month. The airline currently operates five flights per week along the route, but will be adding a sixth flight on April 18 and a seventh on May 4, bringing the total to seven per week. Peter Davies, Air Malta Chief Executive, said that this is good news for the communities of Libya and Malta.
Davies also said that since they re-started the service last November, they have seen a steady increase in the demand for flights to Tripoli and they expect to carry as many as 30,000 passengers to and from Tripoli this coming summer. This also helps the airline improve the connectivity between Malta and both Tripoli and mainland Europe. Air Malta is also finalizing its plans to begin flights to Benghazi, although they have not yet made a formal announcement as such.
