Pilot locks co-pilot out of cockpit
The captain on board an Air New Zealand plane was angered by a delay in takeoff and locked his first officer out of the cockpit. The 13-minute delay was caused when the first officer had to undergo a random drug test.
The flight, between Perth and Auckland, happened on May 21 and has made some people call to have three people present in the cockpit at all times so that no one is ever alone. There were 303 people on board the plane and the crew became anxious when the pilot refused to allow the co-pilot into the cockpit. The co-pilot entered the cockpit by another door.
Both pilots have been ordered to stand down: the pilot for two weeks, and the co-pilot for one week, so they can participate in training and counselling.
