Transat Holidays and its subsidiary Nolitours will not be offering direct charter flights from Comox Valley Airport to Mexico this coming winter. These companies have been offering flights from Comox Valley to Puerto Vallarta since 2004 and a direct flight to Cancun since 2009. However, the announcement came last week that neither destination is on the roster for the coming winter travel season.
Paula Rizos, commercial director for Transat in Western Canada, has confirmed the news, saying that they made the decision a couple of months ago, although the schedule has just been released. She also said that the decision will be reviewed on an annual basis and that the competitiveness of the market was the underlying reason for the decision. Transat wants to operate for profitability this winter and the Comox Valley route was not one of the most profitable.
