Sunday afternoon saw the very first nonstop flight from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport arrive at the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. John Wheat, executive director of the Northwest Florida Beaches Airport, said that they are excited to celebrate the new service as it will open up many more travel opportunities to those living in Northwest Florida and those living in St. Louis.
In celebration of the inaugural flight, Southwest Airlines gave every passenger a gift bag that contained lip balm, sun screen, a beach ball, and brochures for the local attractions. Passenger Jamie Gross said that the items in the gift bag would come in handy because they planned to spend most of their time at the beach. Before the flight service to Bay County began, travellers into and out of the area would have had to fly in and out of airports in neighboring cities.
