Tuesday morning has seen travel on the U.S. east coast a little smoother after Monday saw the cancellation of 660 flights due to severe storms blanketing the region. Those flights that did operate were delayed, making for a messy flight schedule. While Tuesday is better, there is another forecast for stormy weather along the east coast. However, by 10:30 am the only eastern airports reporting disruptions were Philadelphia and Newark Liberty.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration’s flight delay map, average flight delays were 35 to 50 minutes, mainly due to reduced visibility because of low cloud cover. Newark Liberty is a major hub for United Airlines and Philadelphia is a major base for US Airways. In General, the east coast airports are major hubs for many airlines, so when travel is disrupted there it can affect the whole country.
